Chapter 17

Somehow, we manage to fall asleep on my small couch wrapped in Mamaw's quilt—and sleep all night, which probably wasn't smart under the circumstances.

My eyelids flutter open to meet dawn's sunlight stealing through the cracks of the drapes. I swear a bird's chirping pours through the windowpanes, even this late in the fall. It's like some weird-ass fairy tale, where two deadly Assassins may get up and break into song.

I brush my smile against Ben's chest, take in his scent, which now combines with mine. Electricity zings through my veins, and my soul reaches out to his as my arm tightens around him.

So, this is the Bond. The thing I've dreaded. How could I have been so dense? Never in my twenty-five years of living have I felt so alive. So strong and sure and capable. My body craves his, the need for him to be inside me again overpowering every other thought.

I flick my tongue over his nipple, and revel in his sharp intake of breath. My hand travels underneath the quilt to find him ready for me. Possessiveness races through my body, a feral need to keep him by my side, no matter what.

How do Bonded Assassins get anything done? I mean, fuck this world and any other. All I want is this small apartment with this perfect man in it. Minus the drunken Pixie in my bed, of course.

Ben stirs, bowing until my hand tightens around him. "Morning," he whispers, twirling a lock of my hair around his finger.

I kiss his chest before focusing on his face, his smile as bright as the one curving my lips. "Hey, you."

He raises a brow as he lifts the quilt to see my hand's ministrations. "Is this what we're doing now, before the sun has barely cracked the horizon?"

I giggle, yeah giggle, and climb on top of him. "You plan on doing something else?"

He grabs my hips with a growl and lifts me on to him. "Hell, no."
